It looks obvious

Europe’s struggle to deploy troops to Lebanon together with the UN diplomatic efforts to ensure that the renewed UNIFIL will not disarm Hezbullah, making me wonder should Israel withdrawal from its demand for the existence of such force. Although the initial expected advantages it become clear that such force will not secure peace for Israel’s north.

Lacking a mandate to engage in activity that might resolve the situation in Lebanon, even though it might involve armed conflict, will only limits Israel’s option in future conflicts.Hezbullah’s ability to rebuild itself, together with its increased popularity, will enjoy the shelter of impotent UNIFIL and an umbrella of UN appeasement policy. In addition the existence of Western forces in Lebanon will only support Hezbullah’s claim that it is the only protector of Muslim land from the western imperialism.

It seems that it might be better for Israel to simply withdrawal from Lebanon with no UNIFIL force at all. It should make clear that Israel is abide by, and will act to enforce,  UN Resolution 1559 and UN resolution 1701 and it keeps to itself the freedom to act as it see fits if Lebanon doesn’t comply as well.

It is risky but it is less risky than the French protecting Israel…
