Short Note about Music Discovery

Comments

Recently I read very interesting comparison between last.fm and Pandora . Both services dealing with music discovery based on past experience. I wasn’t aware of last.fm before I read the comparison and based on the warm review that Fred Wilson wrote I gave them a try.

I’m using Pandora for few months now and only few days with last.fm so I would assume that Pandora results regarding my Taste are better. But even when considering this advantage Pandora works for me better then Last.fm

With Pandora I’m getting higher rate of hits for music that I like. More to this point, in the few days I used last.fm it’s rarely served me with songs that I liked.

As for the general approach my understanding, and I might be wrong,  is that last.fm matching the music based on choices made by other people with similar taste while Pandora categorize elements of the musical piece to determine the user’s taste. I have to say that both approaches are interesting intellectually but the one appealing to me.

For me, the choice is very clear – Pandora is my favorite service.
