Pandora
Pandora is a great software but its importance is much more then being a good software. For those of you who might not know about Pandora: it is a service that allow user to create personalized Channels of Music. The system, based on the user feedback, learning which music is wanted by the listeners and provides more song with the same patterns.
Until recently Pandora was a paid service only. However recently they announced a free service with advertisement to be attached. Moreover, the free service was offered to the paying customers as well. Since the payment for this service isn’t high I decided to remain a paying customer and not to be exposed to additional advertisement.
Pandora is great because it is a proof that people in the core are not criminals. It is cheaper to download music through emule, bittorent and such other P2P networks however people are paying money to get music through Pandora. The fact is that since the price is reasonable people do not mind not to own the song but to listen to them as often as the algorithm behind the application present it. No wonder that the recording companies are not so happy with Pandora.
Today I red in Beta (blog in Hebrew!) that Pandora caching the MP3 files as temp files on the local machine. Independent check I run confirmed this Information. This is bad since its allowing Illegal copies of the files and Illegal distribution. Since I’m so fond of Pandora’s service I hope that they will find fast solution to the caching. I wouldn’t want to see them as target for law suits.
