Meebo
Meebo is a cool program. It combines four IM clients in a web application which allow the user to connect from any computer. The application uses AJaX efficiently and provides rich user interface that make the use of this application smooth. The only problem with Meebo is that it is a web application and therefore when the user change focus to a different screen, or even a different tab he/she are not aware of new incoming messages.
The problem with Meboo is in the premise that the “Web is the the platform”. While in general I’m agreeing that most applications can be web applications I do not see the advantage of having IM application that doesn’t provide immediate notification for awaiting message. As comparison to Meebo I played with Trillian, a desktop application that combines several IM clients and doing it as well as Meebo. Trillian’s only advantage is that it is minimized into the desktop tray and notifies the user immediately for incoming message - this advantage is crucial. I would rethink my position about Meebo if they will develop a widget version but right now I do not see for it any use.

The trouble with these third party sites is security - you're trusting them not only to collect all these passwords without using them (honest!) but you're also trusting them to keep them locked away where I, the hacker, can't grab them (secure, competent) - frankly, it's asking a lot!
Are you going to give these people your email password?
