Mathematically proved

In light of recent discussions I had about the interface between science and Ideology, or politic, I found this quote from Sergey Brin’s father ( a remarkable man by his on merit) fascinating:

So Michael became an economist for GOSPLAN, the central planning agency. “I was trying to prove that, in a few years, living standards in Russia would be higher than in the United States,” he says. “And I proved it. I know enough about math to prove whatever you want.”

Math is a wonderful tool. But it is also very different from most sciences, as it is not empirical in essence. This isn't to say that other sciences can not be manipulated. Science is just a human way of understanding the world around us. It has all the advantages of humanity, but also all it's flaws. People often forget this, and scientists tend to forgive them. After all, it is only human to forget.
