Participation is the key

Comments

Sometimes history is being written by the losers….

The political game is usually decided by those who participate, and when Libertarian start participating seriously they will start effecting. Participating will involve also compromising, but this is not always a bad thing.

Gloomy morning

Comments

The markets meltdown is very scary, and walking down wall-street today I didn’t see many happy faces. As the situation worsen we are going to hear more and more suggestions for central government actions, bailouts and other measures that will lead to further decline. As people get more desperate, and by god I can’t stop worry, and the natural tendency of election season populism - we will have to hear about the “Market Failure”.

But what we experiencing now isn’t a market failure, not at all. In fact Free Market advocates were warning us long time ago about the dangerous and the dire consequences of our inflationary policies. It was easier to dismiss such warnings and their bearer, the cost of that mistake is much more than a penny.

Do you care to guess who wrote this:

Since leaving office I’ve written about public policy from a new perspective: outside looking in. I’ve come to realize that protecting freedom of choice in our everyday lives is essential to maintaining a healthy civil society.

Why do we think we are helping adult consumers by taking away their options? We don’t take away cars because we don’t like some people speeding. We allow state lotteries despite knowing some people are betting their grocery money. Everyone is exposed to economic risks of some kind. But we don’t operate mindlessly in trying to smooth out every theoretical wrinkle in life.

The nature of freedom of choice is that some people will misuse their responsibility and hurt themselves in the process. We should do our best to educate them, but without diminishing choice for everyone else.

No it wasn’t written by Goldwater nor by Ron Paul, It was actually written by George McGovern - the democratic candidate in 1972 which was consider than radical left. I can only dream to have a republican nominee that is that conservative…

Gorge Will has very little good to say about Castro:

In the wise man’s prisons — according to Armando Valladares’s memoir of 22 years in them ("Against All Hope") — some doors are welded shut and prisoners are fed watery soup sometimes laced with glass, or dead rats, or half a cow’s intestine, rectum included, containing feces. In 2003, the wise man’s pulverizing police state, always struggling to reduce Cuba’s civil society to a dust of individuals, sentenced 78 democracy advocates, after one-day secret trials, to up to 28 years in those prisons. Pilgrims praising Cuban health care call to mind Pat Moynihan’s acerbic observation that when travel to China was liberalized, many visitors seemed more impressed by the absence of flies than by the absence of freedom.

Castro has ruled Cuba during 10 U.S. presidencies and longer than the Soviet Union ruled Eastern Europe. The Economist has called him "a Caribbean King Lear." Raging on his island heath, with nothing to celebrate except his endurance, his creativity has come down to this: He has added a category to the taxonomy of world regimes — government by costume party. Useful at last, the Comandante, dressed for success in his military fatigues, presides over a museum of Marxism.

I didn’t need this article to know that I married the perfect wife, but according to this research I must be in heaven:

But while a compliant and submissive wife was expected back in the post-war years, modern men actually respect a woman who will stand up to them, with 59 per cent rating it as an important feature of their relationship.

Imperial Hubris

Comments

I’m reading the book Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror , and it is a fascinating reading. The writer, Michael Scheuer, served as the chief of the Bin Laden issue station and is an expert on issues of radical islam, Al-Aqeda and Bin Laden. His point of view, the one that when repeated by certain politicians is considered crazy, is very simple: Radical islam react to America’s actions, not to its values. The book provides interesting analysis how the US imperial policies are being used by Bin Laden to increase the popular support for his cause, and how these policies prolonging the “War on Terror”.

When I’ll finish reading the book I’ll try to write a longer review and some personal thoughts, But don’t wait you should read it your self.

Anything but boring

Comments

Being sick and than extremely busy I didn’t have much time to write here lately. But this breaking story by the NY Times is the perfect reason to break silence.

I guess that the NY Times made a mistake breaking the story before McCain’s nomination was sealed. I can only assume that if the story will not die quietly very soon someone will suggest McCain that he need to do the “honorable thing” and drop from the race. What will be the implications on the GOP nominations? I have no idea but I can guess that the two candidates that stayed in the race, Huckabee and Paul, will have future after all.

Who ever thought that politic is boring? :)

Canvassing is working!

Comments

My wife just sent me the detailed results of the primaries in NY. Apparently canvassing had its results:

1. Ron Paul total NY was approximately 7%

2. Ron Paul Results in our Township (Clarkstown) - 5.9%

3. Ron Paul Results in our Precinct (022) - 15.9%!

It is nice to know that the efforts had some results.

Talking with people

Comments

Canvassing in NY is completely different experience than canvassing in NH. It was still worth while doing, not because it will change anything for this elections, Ron Paul isn’t going to win them. It was worth doing because it is another, one of many more to come, opportunity to offer an option to the dependency in big government. And it is hard, mostly for people that are not trained as salespeople. But when an older person told me today :” I’ll vote for your guy. Because what he say use to make sense when I was growing up, and it is sure make sense now!” it is really worth it.

A doing less President

Comments

This is, despite the fact he didn’t get almost any questions nor the time to answer them, the best debate for Ron Paul. He used his time wisely staying focus on his message. And I was specifically happy with this answer.

I’m surely going to try helping keeping this message in the campaign - as a precinct leader and by small donation this Friday.
