Happy New Year

Comments

Thinking about the past year, weighing its events and results, leave me with more concerns about the world my daughters growing into. Iran’s nuclear plans - as part of its regional and global ambitions, Europe’s decline, Israel’s dangerous situation as a result of its inability to win the war in Lebanon and the greater instability in the Middle-East, the deterioration of personal liberties in the US and a genocide is allowed to take place with nobody stopping it!

In the eve of new year I only hope that next year we are going to overcome. The Pope seems like he is up to to the task of defending Europe and the west. Is he the ideal figure to defend the west? obviously not! his inability to accept personal liberties as central values is a major problem. However I didn’t see any one, with intellectual ability and influencing position , rising up to the task and therefore as an ad-hoc alliance, and with great vigilance I embrace the Pope actions.

And beside, how can a year which have Kofi Annan retiring to quiet life back in Ghana be a bad year?

Pardon my ignorance Rogel, but can I wish you a 'rosh hoshana'? (oh oh, am I messing that up or what?? I better not have misspelled that either!!)
I sympathize with your fears, but I fear the US' intentions a whole lot more than Iran's, inspite of all the rhetoric and propaganda that wants everyone to believe otherwise. As a parent, I truly feel very heavy at times wondering when all this madness is going to end. When people will get an inkling (speaking solely of the situation here in the US) that they are being manipulated and losing one liberty after another. Plus all the intolerance that is getting greater from the fundamentalists. I tell you, you're 'lucky' in a way that they are all gung ho zionists, because otherwise they'd be just as intolerant of the Jewish faith! I have learned plenty of things in history (europe) to know that the fundamentalists are the most intolerant of any other faith, including other Christian faiths. Fundamentalism the world over (meaning different religions) are a danger, and they have so much in common too!
Well, not an uplifting well wish for a happy new year, sorry!! But, you want a better world, I want it, different Arabs and Muslims do so let's hope for the sake of being positive and having some faith, that somewhere in between those with good and honourable intentions (and tolerance) will find a way to reach out to the other.. are you going to post another picture of your beautiful little girl? I still remember her beautiful eyes but then, I am partial to brown eyes and dark lashes!! (hubby and son have them as well)
all the best to you and your family for the new year Rogel,
    Ingrid
