The human rights mockery council

Comments

The idea that international relations between countries can be handled in a democratic like organization is a complete failure. It is a failure not only because such relations are, and should be, based on interests - but mostly because such organization become a hostage of tyrannic states.

Councils, such as the human right council, are a mockery and an insult for the purpose they were founded for and the common sense. How can someone take seriously such council where its members will include: Algeria (2007), Bahrain (2007), Tunisia (2007), Pakistan (2008), Azerbaijan (2009), Saudi Arabia (2009) and many others similar countries who set such fine example of liberal democracy and human rights protection.

It is not surprising that the human rights councils agenda is:

Western human rights groups sought to focus the council’s attention on Darfur, where genocide is occurring, and on Uzbekistan, where a dictator refuses to allow the investigation of a massacre by his security forces. Their efforts have been in vain. Instead, the council has treated itself to report after report on the alleged crimes of the Jewish state; in all, there were six official “rapporteurs” on that subject in the latest session alone. One, Jean Ziegler, is supposed to report on “the right to food.” But he, too, delivered a diatribe on Israeli “crimes” in Lebanon.

Maybe its time to admit that the UN isn’t, and cannot in the future, serve the purpose it was founded for. Maybe it is time that the west will stop funding the UN bureaucracy, which didn’t stop the genocide in Darfur - and other places. It is time to stop pretend that any good can come from organization that let Sudan equal vote as Sweden .
