Wasting other people’s money

Comments

One common, and natural, fault of public servants and elected officials is that they tend to forget that they dealing with other people’s money bear more responsibilities rather than entitlement. Regardless of the position about the size of government or on wealth distribution one should expect that politicians would be careful with the way they are using the public fund.

One indication of how the candidates are going to handle the public money:

Clinton and her chief Republican rival Rudolph Guiliani spent a fortune on five-star hotels, spa retreats and chartered jets as they pursued their presidential quests in style.

But Texas Representative Ron Paul from the libertarian wing of the Republican Party (campaign issues: scrap income tax, the Federal Reserve and gun control) saves his pennies at motel chains.

This should be the only deciding factor but it is a fairly reliable indication on the way these candidates concept of what they entitled to and what they actually mean when they are using the term "Public Servant".
