Voting on the Decency Act
When thinking about the differences between the democrats and the republicans it is important to note the voting on the indecency act last week.
Both the Senate and House have passed legislation to dramatically increase penalties for broadcasters that break federal rules and air profane or indecent material during certain hours. The two bills still have to be reconciled in a House-Senate conference committee.
With no dissent, the Senate late Thursday approved a bill to increase indecency fines tenfold to $325,000 per violation for television and radio broadcast stations that air profane or indecent material between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., prime family viewing hours.
As the 2008 campaign approaches many libertarians starting to examine the question which is the lesser evil; should they align with the republicans , or maybe with the democrats ? Well we all should look at this vote and remember, there are no real differences between the two parties when it’s come to Liberian’s values.
As for the decency act itself, it seems like we are going into long battle.
