Fighting mockery

Comments

Finally someone speak up:

The condescension to and mockery of the sole Republican candidate who seems to care about individual liberty has begun to tick me off.[...] He deserves more respect than he has gotten thus far, not least because compared to the pandering of his competitors, Paul actually seems to believe what he says. And what he says has more to do with conservatism than the crap the rest of them are peddling.

My main hope from Paul’s candidacy was that he will be able to bring Libertarian ideas back to the mainstream discussion. It is hard anyway, it is almost impossible when you are being dismissed as weird and irrelevant. Paul’s campaign has to push back, and the Atlantic is not a bad place to start from.

    Alex,
as much as I would like to believe that everybody are missing the Paul's spectacular rise - I very much doubt it. Most of surveys predictions of Paul's success predictions are around the 1%. The nature of online participation, including the use of some automatic algorithms, might effected the results.
I don't like the fact that the what the mainstream media handle Dr. Paul is by making him look like a joke, I think it is unfair and unjustified, but I don't think that they miss the huge story of Dr. Paul being the front runner. But hey - I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong! :)
