It looks obvious

Do you believe?

Would you elect a Catholic President? What about Jewish one? Or Hindu? Shouldn’t be a problem, right?  It doesn’t matter what a President’s religious beliefs are, she can even believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.  But should your President believe in Evolution?

Apparently one of the litmus tests that Republican candidates need to pass is their beliefs in scientific theories. I could not decipher yesterday if passing the test entails believing in science or not, but I’m relativity new in the US and am still learning. However, as somewhat of an outsider, it seems to me that we are putting a heavy burden on these republican presidential candidates asking them to believe in theories that we don’t ask the scientist themselves to believe in. Come to think about it we actually expect our scientist to not believe in any scientific theory, but rather to work hard and to try to refute them. And if this is the case, shouldn’t we be more worry if our President start making sacrifices to the relativity theory, or praying to the quantum theory?

I hope that what the moderators in the debate intended to ask was if the candidates intend to enforce their beliefs in the public education system, or are they going to impose religious studies in disguise of science. Or in a less politically correct world the moderator would inquire if the candidate is part of modern civilization or a caveman. Such questions would make the debate somewhat interesting, but it seems like that wasn’t anyone’s intention.
