More obout Google and Privacy
As a libertarian I’m instinctively worried when the government involve with issues that affect my privacy. The Patriot Act is one example where I’m feeling that while attempting to fight terrorism we are risking the liberty we are trying to defend. However the following story which I found through the SearchBlog did not generate the same reaction.
When one use public search engine, such as Google, the search record can be subject for subpoena – very much like phone calls. I trust the American legal system enough to believe that a judge will not grant such subpoena without enough evidence to support it. Moreover, as I understand from the story, the data was extract from the suspect’s personal computer. I do not think that someone would have worried that the police is looking for a gun in ones house, but we all hysteric about our Google searches or searching our hard disks.
