The war on the cupcake

The nanny state

When I saw the Daily Show piece on banning cupcakes in NY schools I was pretty sure it is only a joke. Surely, I thought, it can’t be real. But I decided to check it anyway, and to my great surprise I found that it is nothing but a joke.

First I found out that worried school district and other busybodies decided to declare war on the sweets:

Schools around the country are cracking down on cupcakes in the classroom, even though some parents say the policies go too far. The cupcake ban is just one of many steps schools are taking to help curb childhood obesity.

"Schools have to emulate healthy eating," said Carol Beebe, executive director of the New York School Nutrition Association. "The school is the example and the place where kids are taught how to eat healthy."

The obvious lack of subtlety and moderation is a repeating pattern when dealing with any subject, mostly when the opportunity to ban something arise. But if you worried that your little precious will not enjoy cupcake parties, you can calm down. A counter maneuver,  by another busybody NY assemblyman, will protect your children rights to crave as much poison as they want by declaring:

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the state law, in relation to making the cupcake the
official state children’s snack

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To allow children to enjoy cupcakes.

Isn’t it wonderful that the government taking care of us?
