It is not about energy savings

Keeping the tariffs on imported Ethanol is another indication that the high interest in Ethanol has very little to do with energy saving. The main beneficiary of the 54 cents tariff is the local corn industry, not the American consumer. It is interesting to note the bipartisan cooperation when it come to protecting special interests: 

Unfortunately, the amendment failed. Democrats and Republicans alike voted to keep the tax. Go here to see how your senator voted.
