It is better late than never

The Free Market

The IRS finally discontinue, and is ready to refund, the Spanish - American war phone tax. It took a court order to have the government stop collecting the tax, long after the reason for which it was initiated stop to exist.

The Spokesman of the treasury department explain that the $60 refund is:

Sean Kevelighan, a spokesman for the Treasury Department, said phone companies, IRS, Treasury and others worked together to come up with pegging the refund amount to the number of exemptions.

"This was the best way for individuals to come as close as possible to the right refund amount without having to figure it out on their own."

Since I have access to the underline data of my phone bill, for the entire period eligible for refund, I’m going to check how valid is this statement.
