Free Market 101
Yesterday we got our first real storm of the winter. It was a mix of icy rain and snow that covered everything with a nice white carpet. But it didn’t take long to find the fly in the ointment, shoveling. As a new commer to suburbia life I was not prepared to the fact that our car need to be rescued from the pile of snow that blocked its way, and mostly I didn’t know that it is really hard work.
But snow storm are also an opportunity to entrepreneurs. Like mushrooms are the rain, the children of the neighborhood, and apparently the children of any suburb in America, appearing with shovels and offer their service. Rescue you car, clean your driveway or your porch - all are no problem - you just need to pay. Surprisingly, without government, unions and minimum wage regulations a price is negotiated between the young entrepreneurs and the old, and lazy, customers. It was amazing to see how the need (in our case to get to the restaurant) created a market, and how the competition between the children kept the price reasonable.
Capitalism in it best

I have a feeling that most of the Libertarian will be in favor of government protecting children from slavery. It is falling under the category of human rights. On the other hand, handing 5 months salary out of the year to the government, and rising, is getting closer to "wip a little one out of his crib in the garage and have him do the work for free." :)
