Some perspective please

Sometime we need to read the news from other parts of the world to put things in proper perspective. Yes the status of personal liberties isn’t what we are wanted to be, but it is still much better than in other places like this:

Two ethnic African women from Darfur have been sentences to death by stoning for committing adultery, while their male partners escaped punishment, a human rights activist said Thursday.

Al-Bagir branded the women’s trial as unfair. "There were no defense lawyers and the trial proceedings were in Arabic, a language the defendants do not understand," he said.

Or like this:

Wang Xiaoning, her partner of 27 years, has been sitting in a Chinese prison since September 2002. He is serving a 10-year sentence for using the Internet to advocate democracy.

We have much to improve in terms of human rights and liberties. But we have to also remember that the nature of the blogosphare is to inflame and to sometimes distort the proper perspective of a story, or an issue. We tend to be rap with our own stories and we forget that it is much worse out their
