Kareem’s sentence
Although we didn’t have much hope we read today’s news about Kareem with sadness:
Dalia Ziada, a human rights activist and blogger, informs us that Kareem is sentenced to FOUR years in prison: three years for contempting religion, and one year for defaming the president.
His appeal will be launched on Saturday by his lawyers, but we are told that it won’t do much. Hopefully it will shorten the sentence.
We still hope that the Middle East will become a place which people can actually live in freedom and prosper. However when one of the US major allies send to jail someone that his only sin was to care about human rights, and while in the "free" Iraq they are oppressing - and killing - gays, the promising future seems far than ever.
