Google announced that they are re-opening the analytics service:

“Currently, we don’t have enough capacity yet to re-open signups for everyone who wants an account. Not everyone who previously sent us an email address received an invite. We will continue to send out additional invites as we add more capacity. If you haven’t submitted your email address to us, please do so on our signup form.”

Omeri, on his blog (Hebrew only) , argue that using of Analytic is a mistake he will not make; he is unwilling to provide Google the traffic information about his blog. Well this is valid position, although somewhat paranoid. Yes Google gathering the information and probably will analyze it on aggregated bases, probably to find methods to improve their advertisements system, so what? What privacy do you comprise?

Analytic is not perfect for blogs traffic analysis, it wasn’t design for them. But until Measure Map will be available I do not know any other service in this price range …

    Privecy something very easy to loose.its a very slipery slope, and I wont even get anywhere near it.I don't use gmail for the same reason.will you provide me with information about your personal movements if I would be willing to provide you with a service such as an online map if your movement history?what if I said I will use this information to be able to sell you thinks you will want for sure? localized advertizements?for example, if I see you stop in some gas station, I can suggest that you stop in my (or my customers) gas station for some benefit, perhaps lower rates?would you consider this something good?do you know where this information is going after I obtain it? maybe I will sell it to others? what happens, if for example, 10 months later some shop owner on your regular path stops you and say he know you always buy some stuff at his compatitor shop, and he is willing to give you a discount?would you still consider it a good thing?see where I am going with it?

    For sure I see Omry, and nothig there is new. I assume you do not use cellphone - since you reveile you location and movemnets, you do not connect to the internet since your ISP has all the information about your browsing and so on.
    We, as user, giving up some privacy which we consider to be less vital for targeted service.
    and by the way if my groccer knows that I'm looking for some product and will offer it to me in better terms - this is improved service.
    I'm not against protection of our privacy, I think that companies that compormised our privacy (Such as Sony and Symantec) will loose customers. However I do not think that Google is in the same boat.

    the difference is in the term of usage.my cell phone revleal my location, yes, but this information is not (it better not) analyzed to extract information about me which can be sold to third party.I think google will turn out much worse then what you think.already you can see hints in their actions that not all is cool with google.for example, willing to give AOL stuff higher ranking in the search result as a part of the deal these two made recently.Only time will tell who was right. mean while, I will do my best to keep my privacy, and not rely on services which openly violates it.

    Why are they different? If I have a proof that they compromized my privacy I will use someone else.
    The deal with AOL has nothing to do with this. And by the way if you read the details of this deal it seems that Google going to mark AOL content so you will know it was push as ad. seems OK to me.

    lets tail specifics:gmail invade your privacy by scanning your emails for keywords, and possibly store information about you in Google databases.lets compare it to Amazon: if you buy something from Amazon, they remember - and later offer you stuff based on it.What's the difference? Amazon is legitimic party in the transaction when I but something from Amazon.google, however is not a party in the transaction where someone sends you an email to your google account, which contains god know what information about you. they just happen to sit on the information junction. this is similar to a case where your ISP collect web usage statistics about you (where you surf). it may seem like a minor breech of privacy, but eventually, some minor product manager at google will say: Hey, we already got that information from Gmail! we can use it from GBogobogo, the the control over the information begin to scatter. eventually it will find its way to stategic partners of google (AOL, for example), and later the sky is the limit.I think once a company start to walk down that path, it cannot be trusted with my information.BRbtw:your comment editor does not respect my Enters.

    these are good points. however all the cases you present using your private information for marketing. the only legitimacy, as you mention, is that you accept direct use Vs. indirect use. I'm not sure that I agree but I would like to think about it.
    One more thing, Are you sure that Google storing the key words from your e-mails? I'm pretty sure they don't. if they would you would have seen improvment in the ads served to your e-mails or based on connection between different e-mails - and this is not the case.
