We can start the weekend with some good news.

Link: Google Doesn’t Have to Turn Over Query Data

A federal judge ruled Friday that Google Inc. did not have to turn over data about consumer Web search queries that the Department of Justice had requested.

U.S. District Judge James Ware ordered Google to work with the government to provide 50,000 randomly selected addresses for Web sites from its databases. But he denied government lawyers’ request for a sampling of 5,000 search queries entered by Google users, concluding that they essentially duplicated information the government could glean from the Web addresses. In addition, Judge Ware said that Google’s providing the queries could potentially cost it the trust of some users and expressed concerns about whether "search queries themselves may constitute potentially sensitive information."
