Choosing an exemplary figure

How much worse can it get when your national, or religious, hero is a bloody tyrant that oppressed his own people for so many years? It seems that the only hope for the Middle - East is that one day the people in this region will no how to fight their own tyrant instead of worship making them holly figures…

One might argue that this is simply a counter reaction to the American invasion to Iraq, or to its attempt to force political and cultural change on the region. As good argument is this might be, it doesn’t change the fact that the admiration’s object is a person who tortured and killed many of his own people.

Instead of being called Majhar Alam, Mr Alam has opted to call the boy Saddam Hussein in honour of the former Iraqi leader who was executed on 30 December.

What is more, the child will not be the only Saddam Hussein in the neighbourhood. There are more than 20 other Saddam Husseins in Lakhanow alone.
