Are we over protecting our children?

Comments

A while ago I posted about a mother that allow her young child to ride the NY subway alone. I read her op-ed with a mix of admiration and hesitation. While I do agree with the main premise that we underestimate the abilities of our children and overestimate the risks, I am not sure where the line is. Yes we tend to be over protective and yes we are crippling our children, but am I ready to send my child alone on the NY subway? I’m not so sure.

If this questions are of interest to you the Lenore Skenazy, who authored the Op-Ed column, continuing the discussion on a blog name, not surprisingly, Free Range Kids, and It is a fascinating discussion.
